The step wise instructions described below would help you to erect an efficient macerating system in your home.

Step 1: First you should prepare the Macerating Unit

In macerating unit, the bowel passes through the discharge tube and gets collected in tank. There is a pump in the tank which after breaking up the bowels pushes the residues through the exit opening.

You can prepare the pump unit in the macerating tank by inserting the flapper check assembly in the place provided. Ensure that flapper assembly maintains the direction of elbow.

Step 2: Tap into the Vent

Properly rub and clean the two ends of old pipe. You can now put rubber adaptors on old pipe.

Now secure the ‘Y’ in its place and now connect the both ends by gently sliding adaptors over them. Then firmly fix the clamps to prevent any leaks.

Step 4: Screw the Adaptor into the Cleanout

You should now uncover the sewer line by removing the cover.

When the cap has been removed, firmly put the male adaptor which has been properly threaded with 3.4″ reducer. Smear the male adaptor threads with Teflon paste and screw the same to clean out. Plumber’s wrench can be used to ensure than adaptor is properly snugged.

Step 5: Attach the Bowl

Now connect the bowl of macerating system to the accordion seal and then secure the bowl with floor by making use of anchoring holes.

Step 6: Attach the Unit to the Sewer Line

To achieve this, bring the discharge line at around flexible 90 above the pump in macerating unit. This line is also called pressure positive line as it gets charged with pressure when the pump starts.

Step 12: Installing Toilet.

For toilet installation, fix the clamp to the discharge outlet of toilet.

Then you should keep the bowl just in the front side of macerating unit. Then pull the accordion gasket further onto the discharge opening.

Make sure that the gasket is all even and that the clamp rests on the gasket edge. You can then screw up the clamp to fix it.

When bowl comes over holes in the floor, you can push china protector on lag screws.

Lag screws then should be gently screwed. Bolt covers should be snapped in place.

Step 13: Make the Final Connections

Toilet tank can be installed by properly lining the tank bolts and gasket. Avoid screwing too tight.

Now you can install the seat.

Flex line of stainless steel can now be attached from the bowl to valve. You can turn on the water supply to check for any leakage.

Now all plumbing work is over and you can plug the unit in. You can now test the system by switching on the water.

How to Locate a Roof Leak

How do I know if my roof is leaking? What do I do if I find a leak? How can I locate a leak on my roof? Finding a leak in your home can cause frustration and anxiety. However, there is a simple step by step process that will help you know what to do when you find a leak, how to locate it’s source, and prevent further damage.

Is My Roof Leaking?
It is important to keep in mind that if you find a sign of water damage in your ceiling or wall, it does not necessarily mean that your roof is leaking. The problem could also be the result of leaky plumbing or even condensation. If you find water damage on a ceiling that is not directly below the roof, you may want to consider these other possibilities as causing the leak.

Even if you find sign of water damage in your attic, these signs may not equate to a current leak. For example, if your house is 50 years old, it would have had two or three layers of roofing, and the leak could have occurred anywhere during the life of either roof. A water stain on the roof’s rafters is often what sets off an alarm with the building or home owner, but is far from conclusive evidence of an existing leak.

To determine if your roof is leaking, check the water damage during a rain storm or while snow is melting on your roof. If the damage shows up within 5 hours of recent rain or snow activity, it is probably the result of a roof leak. If the damage occurs outside of this 5 hour range, you may want to have the area checked by a plumber.

With any leak, water can build up and put a heavy amount of weight on your ceiling. If you see a bulge in the sheet rock or paint of the affected area, you will want to drain the water to prevent the sheet rock from collapsing and causing more damage to your home. Simply put a bucket under the affected area and poke a hole in the sheet rock with a 16 penny nail to drain the water.

How to Locate a Leak
Once you are confident that your roof is leaking, you can call a certified roofing contractor to locate and repair the leak. If you would like to find the source of the leak yourself, we have provided a step by step guide.

Throughout this process, remember that water runs downhill. If moisture penetrates the roof, it sometimes travels down and even diagonally in both directions before finding it’s way through the underlayment. Once through the underlayment, it needs to find a seam in the roofs sheathing. Then, the water will either drop to the ceiling’s insulation or travel down a rafter
. Once the moisture is on the ceiling, it will usually soak up some insulation before finding it’s way to the sheet rock or plaster ceiling material. About 90% of the time, the leak will manifest itself in a joint in the sheet rock.

To find a leak:

1. Determine how many roof layers is on your home. If your pitched roof has only one layer, it is much easier to find the source of the leak.
2. Locate the area where the leak is manifesting itself inside your home.
3. Transfer this area up to the roof. Is it coming through a penetration such as a pipe, ventilation, swamp cooler, chimney, or skylight? The majority of roof leaks come in around penetrations. Look within 5 feet uphill of the affected area, though it can be as far as 10.
4. If you locate a penetration within this area, look for problems with the flashing. These are usually very simple repairs.
5. If there are no penetrations within this area, look for blown off shingles, torn shingles, and nails coming through. Also, pay close attention to valleys, as these areas tend to leak as well.

If you are able to locate a leak in the flashing, you may be able to repair this yourself if you have some knowledge in roofing and can secure the necessary materials. More complicated leaks should be repaired by experienced professionals.

Understanding Your Electric Bill

You may not realize it, but your monthly electric bill is a valuable tool. It tells you what, when and how you spend your energy dollars every month. By knowing how to “translate” these dollars and cents into energy use information, you can identify energy and cost-saving opportunities. Then, after you’ve taken steps to reduce energy use, your bill can act as a “score card” and give you monthly feedback on your progress.

Most electric bills are complex and can be difficult to read or understand. As a facility manager, you might not even see them on a monthly basis.

However, the operating decisions you make each day directly affect your bill’s bottom line.

For example, operational issues such as flow management, equipment start/stop schedules and preventive maintenance contribute to each month’s bill. If you start reviewing your facility’s bills, you can make smarter energy efficient operating decisions and better manage your own budget. Also, by understanding how energy is measured and billed, you can discover ways to reduce energy cost by controlling when and how energy is consumed.

ENERGY 101: HOW ELECTRICITY IS MEASURED

Your electric utility measures your facility’s electricity use in two ways, energy and demand.

Your electric meter measures your total electric energy consumption over time; this consumption is measured in kilowatt-hours (kWh) of electricity. For example, if you operate

a 2 kW electric heater for five hours, it consumes 2 kW x 5 hrs = 10 kWh. Your bill will include a charge for the energy used by this heater and every other electric-powered piece of

equipment at your facility. Figure 1 illustrates electric consumption, as represented by the shaded area under the curve.

Your electric meter also registers electric demand or the maximum amount of energy you use at one specific time (typically a 15 minute period). Demand is measured in kilowatts (kW) of electricity.

In general, nonresidential customers pay demand charges while residential customers do not.

Throughout a billing period, a demand meter records the power load for each 15 minute period. For the electric heater mentioned above, its contribution to the metered demand would be 2 kW at any time the heater is operating. Figure 1 illustrates peak demand as well; it is represented by the highest point on the curve. This demand level indicates how much electricity your electric utility must provide to meet your largest demand for the month.

You are charged for this demand, even though you may operate at this level for only one 15 minute period during a month’s billing cycle. You can think of demand charges as “overhead” expenses that your utility incurs for providing the electric infrastructure that is capable of meeting your largest load. The utility company then passes this cost on to you. If you (and other electricity users) can reduce peak demands, then utilities will not need to maintain as many power plants or build new ones.

THE BOTTOM LINE: THE BILL COMES DUE

Your electric bill will contain separate charges for energy consumption and demand. Energy consumption is billed at a flat rate ($/kWh) that is multiplied by the total kWh used during the billing period. Electric demand is billed at a specific charge ($/kW) that is multiplied by your facility’s peak demand during the billing period.

Typically, electric utilities base demand charges on daytime peak demand. Daytime or “on peak,” is generally a 12 hour period weekdays (for example eight A.M. to eight P.M.).

Utilities’ generating and distribution systems are most heavily loaded during these peak use hours. Some utilities may also use your maximum annual peak demand to set your minimum

demand charge for each month of the year, even if you use less electricity during a particular month. This arrangement is referred to as a “ratchet charge.” This is typically referred to as “customer demand”. Additional charges are also added for facility charges, taxes and fuel cost adjustments, but these charges are generally related to your overall electricity consumption, not your facility’s demand charge. In general, the higher your facility’s electricity consumption and electric demand, the higher your utility bill.

TAKING ACTION: NEXT STEPS

When you understand how your facility’s electricity use is metered and billed, you can better manage your energy consumption. Then you can take steps to make operational changes to reduce these costs. For example, energy- and cost-saving steps can include:

_ Developing a comprehensive energy and cost reduction plan and sharing it with your operators.

_ Making utility costs known to operators/personnel.

_ Getting copies of your electric bills and keeping a log/chart of monthly use and costs.

_ Setting goals and targets for both energy consumption reduction and demand reduction.

_ Looking for periods of unusually high or abnormal energy use and determining the cause.

_ Identifying the time of your peak demand, determining causes of this peak, and finding ways to reduce it. Consider possible strategies for shifting equipment operations into utility off-peak periods.

_ Finding equipment that runs excessively and using automatic controls to shut it down when not needed.

_ Setting controls so that operation is staggered (for instance two pumps that need to operate only one hour per day should be controlled so as not to operate at the

same time).

_ Understanding that utilities have different rates for different types of customers. Talk with your utility representative, and make sure you are being charged the correct rate for your facility. Inquire if there are programs offered that will allow lower rates.
