A cistern is a waterproof container usually made to store water. Most of the time people confuse cistern with water tank. Water tank is a sealed container and have the tendency to store water at above atmospheric pressure, whereas cistern is open to atmosphere and are usually used to store the rain water. Cisterns are of different types, usually characterized in three types.

Types and Sizes

Three most common types of cistern are:

- Galvanized Steel: Galvanized steel cisterns are not suitable for domestic use. These are heavy, a bit expensive and more incline to corrosion.
- Rigid Plastic: Rigid plastic cisterns are of the same size as that of galvanized steel cisterns. They are easy to replace s well. Rigid plastic cistern is capable of handling the heat and can be used for central heating system (as feed and expansion).
- Flexible Plastic: Flexible plastic cisterns are made of polythene and are round in shape. These are not capable of handling heat and cannot be used as feed and expansion. They are flexible enough to move from one place to another even at areas where rigid cisterns could not pass through.

The actual capacity of normal cistern is 50 gallons (227 liters). Those cisterns which are used for hot water storage or for central heating systems may be smaller in size. Remember cisterns are never filled up to the edge. So, we can say that the normal capacity of the cistern for water storage is more than the actual capacity.

To keep the water from pollutants and dirt, lids are used. Though, they are not airtight but have tendency to keep the dirt, pollutants and insects out of the cistern. Make sure that the cistern is well insulated.

Installation

If you are installing cistern in attic, take special care.

Before start working make sure that water supply is turned off. If you are replacing old cistern, drain the water off from it by open the faucets and store water in clean containers. Remove all the water connections from the cistern. For corroded and rusted pipes, use saw to scrub it off.

Whichever cistern you have chosen to install, give a proper support to it on its place so that no unpleasant incident takes place. The surface should be flat on which you are going to place cistern.

Now you have to give connect the pipes to the new cistern. Tank connectors are there to help you connect the pipes to the cistern. If your cistern does not have a hole on the side for pipe, drill a hole. You can use hole saw or a special tank cutter to cut a hole. Apply plastic washer to seal
the hole. Use a threaded pipe with a compression or capillary joint to pass through the hole and secure it with nuts. Install the ball valve and gate valves properly before truing on the water supply.

Secure the pipes properly to prevent any damage.

Make sure that the outlet should be 50mm above from the base of cistern. Ball valve should be fixed in such a way that the water level is 100mm from the top of cistern.

Make certain that the overflow pipe is properly fixed and it discharge water away from the house. The overflow pipe should be attached 25mm above the water level and 20mm below the ball valve outlet.

Vent pipe should also be connected for hot water cylinder. It should be connected in such a way that is rise 400mm above the cistern and 50mm above the water level.

Do not forget to insulate the pipes and cistern. Special insulation kits are available in the market which can be used to insulate the pipes and cistern itself.

Teak is one of the best types of wood available in this world today. This is the best because of its long durability and the strong cohesiveness which it possesses. Teak is widely used for the home and handicraft artifacts, while using it for the office furniture.

This article aims to give its readers some of the 5 do, it yourself tips which we believe will be very helpful in terms of maintaining your teakwood furniture.

Tip one:

Take the furniture piece out into the garden
or the courtyard. This not only helps you to keep the house clean. It also helps the other furniture in the house by getting damaged. So, when you take it outside ensure that you water the plants. This helps protect the plants from getting affected by the chemicals which might be used while cleaning the wooden furniture like dining table, couch or your wall panel.

Tip Two:

While you have taken care of the other furniture and the plants in your garden before you start cleaning or polishing the furniture, ensure that you are also protected. We advice, Before you start the cleaning process of the furniture please wear a rubber or plastic glove which will help protect your hands from the chemicals like the4 varnish or the polish. Please also wear some protective eye gear as there is a good possibility that the chemical may spill.

Tip Three:

Now when you start the cleaning process, first dust off the furniture piece with a dry cloth. This helps clean all the residual dust on it. Then if you are planning to apply the polish on take the polish in a small bowl or a tumbler and use the appropriate sized brush to apply the polish. While applying the polish, please make sure that you apply it in an even direction, as applying it in an ad-hoc fashion will form layers on the furniture item.

Tip Four:

While wearing gloves, apply the teak cleaner with a bristle brush and the brightener with a disposable brush. While doing this, please follow the manufacturer’s guidelines very meticulously. It helps gain maximum results. If need be, please consult your friendly carpenter for any expert advice.

Tip Five:

After you are done with coloring, polishing please make sure that a teakwood sealer is applied. A teakwood brightener or teal oil will not catch the color if a sealer is not applied. So, please apply a good quality sealer as well.

We hope these tips prove to be useful for you, when you start cleaning or polishing the weathered teakwood furniture

You will need to specify all your building supplies. This step most of the time is glance over and sometimes people don’t give it the proper attention. It effects the shed’s cost and style that is how important this decision is. The decision on the kind of supply to used should be made in between the time you design the shed and when you begin construction on your new project.

The determining factors in your shed’s proper design is your decision to use smart methods that take all the necessary precautions and throw out all the guess works. For starter look at your plan many times to make sure you’re not skipping any steps. Another thing to keep in mind is the fact that your wood can swell and mess up your plans this usually is cause by the weather meaning how cold does it get in the area where you live, and also by the kind of wood you select to use for construction. Before you begin to cut your wood, be sure to make all necessary adjustments.

The pressure treated wood widely available at home centers and most lumberyards is now treated with inorganic chemical instead of arsenate. Which means they are adding friendlier chemicals to make these woods safer. If your budget doesn’t allow you to get the higher leveled pressure treated wood to build your shed you can always go with a lesser resistant level like redwood, locust and cedar. Depends on where you live you can check with your local sawmills as to what local weather resistant grown trees which would work for you to construct your shed with. I am sure that they would gladly help with such a request. How much you pay for your wood is greatly depends on your area’s availability and the kind of wood species that they have.

If saving money a big deal for you as it should be for anyone, going with the #2 pines might make more sense economically and still have a nice, strong, durable shed. Just so you know you can purchase unseasoned lumber from your local saw-mill.

Another option we can discuss that is as economical is the #2 northern pines but it is most beneficial if you live in the northeast part of the United States. It doesn’t matter whether you purchase seasoned kiln dried wood or unseasoned green lumber, consider what joinery you’ll use. You might not be too happy with the slight gaps that sometimes show if square edge lumber is butt jointed. So now let’s discuss other materials and supplies you’ll want to have.

Now for your roof supplies which most of them happen to be suited for diy installation. If you decide to go with asphalt shingles there are basically two kinds that are available: Organic-based shingles and fiberglass-based ones. Other roofing options are the cedar shakes and slate.

For more supply stuffs you are going to be needing window for natural light, fresh air and a nice view wouldn’t hurt either. You also will need doors, you need to decide whether you want a single door or double doors for storing bigger items.

A diaphragm pump, also known as a membrane pump, is simply a pump that moves fluid. They’re highly versatile creations: they can be used in anything from wastewater treatments to the production of artificial hearts. And you know the filter on your little aquarium at home? Diaphragm pumps help make those things as well-specifically, the part of the filter that pumps air). In a diaphragm pump, the diaphragm is often made out of Teflon. When it’s squeezed, it pushes fluids either out one side or out both sides. (This squeezing can be powered by electricity, or through a series of cranks and gears.) As the diaphragm moves upward the pressure inside the device goes down, and so fluid is allowed to enter into the storage chamber. The fluid will stay there until the diaphragm begins to move down, at which point the pressure inside the fluid chamber goes up and works to expel the fluid. Then the diaphragm will move upward again, the pressure will drop once more, and so more fluid enters. This creates a cycle of fluid moving in and out, and the moving parts of this cycle create force. (This is kind of how an internal combustion engine works as well; the physics are very similar.)

There are several companies that make diaphragm pumps. Among the leading companies are U.S. Plastic Corporation headquartered in Lima, Ohio; the Bosworth Company out of Providence, Rhode Island; and Ryan Herco Flow Solutions, which has offices in various cities throughout the United States. When you’re in the market to buy a diaphragm pump, be sure you know exactly how big it will have to be (tiny pumps, by the way, are known as micro-diaphragm pumps), how much suction lift you’ll want, and what materials you’ll want it to be made out of, if you have a preference.

You’ll also have to decide what the flow rate should be. The flow rate of a diaphragm pump depends on the length of the apparatus’s stroke and the diameter of the diaphragm itself. You’ll also want something that’s sturdy and long-lasting. A good pump should be able to process thick liquids, and liquids like slurry that contain high concentrations of solid waste matter. They should also be able to prime themselves. Take all of these elements into consideration and you’ll find yourself with diaphragm pumps that will service you and your needs for a long time.
